My Fourth Grade Farm

Alright so I figured out that I may be a bit of a blog loser. LOL Almost an entire school year has gone by and this is my 3rd post. Well I guess I will have to try a bit harder.
Anyway almost to the end of the school year and I am already surfing the web and planning for next year. I must say that pinterest is very addicting and I think I may need an intervention soon.
My current over the summer to do list:
Make a teacher's binder
Organize and label things in my room
Figure out a better way to do my class library
to be continued......

What a whirlwind few weeks it has been. I have started the school year and so far so good. I have a pretty good group of students, although some of them are quite talkative! We are also going to start switching for reading next week. If any of you have ideas for teaching writing I would love to hear them. My tentative plan is to begin by teaching them paragraph writing. Then I was thinking that I might start focusing on the types of writing my state tests the kids on: narrative, summary, and response to literature. Would love any idea you have on teaching these. I am sad to admit that teaching writing is so not my strong suit.
On a side note, I will try to post some pics of my class soon. Better late then never :)

New to Blogging
Well I am not much of a writer so we will see how far I get into this blogging scene. I have enjoyed reading so many teaching blogs this summer that I thought I would give it a try. Since I saw a link about first day jitters, I will share one of mine. For the past 15 years I have taught 3rd grade. Lat year I decided it was time for a change, so this year I am teaching 4th grade. I am excited, but nervous as well. I have taught a 3/4 combo before, but it was awhile ago. I think I also feel the pressure to do new things because several of my students from last year will be in my class again this year.
